We meet Ocean, a single mom of two, as she moves into the three flat apartment building. Despite its dilapidated state, the apartment, and the independence that it represents, delights her. Touring her new building, Ocean meets Lupe, her boisterous Latina neighbor, and Peggy, crudely tagged the ‘Avon Lady’. Through their quick and witty banter, we see right away that Ocean and Lupe will become fast friends. Ocean’s feelings of tranquility are dashed when she becomes the surprise guardian of her troubled niece, Trina.

I’ve been following China Anderson’s acting career since 2005 when she was 1st casted in the film “Idlewild” at age 5. Later, she was casted in the films “Madea’s Family Reunion” and “Norbit”. However, China’s talent was finally center-stage when she was casted as Michelle in Carpooler’s “Take your Daughter to Work” episode. China’s an absolute “natural” and makes acting look easy. Which makes me wonder why Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Steven Spielberg, and Jerry Bruckheimer (to name a few) have yet to discover her. China Anderson’s the “best kept secret” in Hollywood.

Am I the only one who found this to be patronizing towards single mothers? I had high hopes for this program when I first came across it because I feel that single mothers are far too often portrayed in a stereotypical manner. Unfortunately, Diary of a Single Mom does nothing but adhere to these stereotypes.

I love the show! I think its incredible acting, writing, directing, and all of that!! Valery Ortiz (Lupe) was phenominal! the actess who plays Ocean, Monica Cahoun, i have followed for awhile and she always play a believable role…which I love! I hate over-actors, and Valery and Monica do an outstanding job of making great acting look easy, though its not, becasue they don’t over do it. I vote for this to go to TV….perferably WB18, NBC, or Fox

A very good story line. Younger single parents (not just women) need to see themselves and others in a positive view and also be aware that a negative side does not have to be permanent. I think that Ocean and Lupe will produce a child. Her troubled niece will casue many problems in the relationship with Ocean and Lupe. Depending upon the age Trina will fall in love with Lupe. Lupe being the intelligent man he is will try to help Trina with her problems.

This looks like it will be a great sitcom. It is kind of sad and seems as though there are quite a few people out there who can relate to the situations these single mothers are faced with. Maybe it can even be encouraging b/c society is so lost and lives are being ruined by disfunctional families.

I love the short stories. I watch them on my lunch hour and it gives me a sense of hope and encouragement. the fiilms are not only good for single moms but for moms like me who are married. We go through some of the same challenges.

I heard Robert Townsend last week discussing the show on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and decided to check it out. I wasn’t prepared for what I received, which was a well put together show. The actors were all great, the storylines awesome and Robert Townsend did a fabulous job directing. This was a realistic view depicting exactly what single women go through. I’m looking forward to the day when one of the major networks pick it up because there’s nothing like it on tv today. Anxiously anticipating season 2!
I have to say, I tried to watch episode one several times. It’s like when you want to read a book and if you can get past the first chapter, the rest is gravy. After I finally finished episode one, I could not wait for the next episode. When I got to “Thanksgiving”, I was looking for more … Robert, when will eposide 9 commence? i enjoyed the first episode it reminded me of a short story i wrote and i submitted to essence magazine. mr. townsend keep doing what you’re doing i really did enjoy it, very interesting and makes you want to read more. which i will do as soon as i finish this comment
I want more and this needs to be on tv. I know what it’s like to cry in the dark and pray, i loved the song, Holy Spirit that was playing in the episode. My sister took in my brothers children after their grandmother our mother died. the connections are so real!!!! Ihad a drunken uncle too! wow!

I could really idetify with Ocean. Really I am a combo of both the grand mother and Ocean. Trying to do it all on your own with limited education is exactly hell.

I heard about this on the radio today and so far so good. Will be checking out the other episodes every day. Congratulations Mr. Townsend for creating this site for single mothers such as a myself. I was also listening to this in Chicago on V103. I didnt get a chance to check it out today and I really really like what Robert Townsend is doing. I’ll be a fan for sure and hope one day my series will be just as good.
This series sure touched my life in more ways than one. Robert Townsend is a master of his craft and a true gentleman. I am happy to spread the word about this series. Are any DVD’s going to be available at any point in the future I am wondering?
DOSM have truly helped me to see outside my closed circle of life and embrace the potential within me as a young black female. Ocean, Lupe, and Peggy represent the possibilities that are unleashed through the bound of sisterhood. I am definitely telling everyone I know about the series. I can’t hardly wait for the rest of the episodes of Season 2!!

I have now watched all the episodes thus far. I have been waiting for this show to disappoint but much to my enjoyment it gets better and better with each episode codos to you Robert and all that work on this producation, your cast member are great and work well together I am so enjoying this keep up the fantastic job.

Just watched episode one, loved it. I am going to tell my friends about it. I found out about it by looking up Robert Townsend’s name.
I love the show. I do wish the eppis where longer as most people do. I have other wishes as well. It is my biggest wish that Ocean and Mike finally, finally become a couple. Mike is a good man and she needs that. Sammy Jr. needs to see how man is suppose to a woman. It would be good for Trina’s hot behind too. I also wish Lupe would grow up and do what is right for herself as well as her children. I also wish for Ocean that she can really get going with college.
This series is outstanding. I am telling everyone I know. I am on pins and needles waiting for the next episode. To Robert Townsend: Thank You Keep going and don’t stop!

MUCH better than the mess that’s on tv right now. Robert Townsend is an established TV producer. He’s been around longer than a lot of the others who have shows on network tv. Why isn’t this show on?!

Excellent opening, Monica and Billy Dee are excellent veteran actors who give any role a refreshing insight and delivery. I can’t wait to see all the installments.
I’ve watch every episode of Dairy of a Single Mom. I wish that this was on mainstream tv, and show others true tv reality. We get so much junk on tv now it’s not worth my time to turn on the tv.

My first time watching, very good, now I’m going to watch season 1, episode 2. I like the idea that it’s a multi-racial cast of single mothers – could happen to any of us. The white widowed grandmother – good touch. Thank you Robert Townsend, always knew you could do it.
The Five Heartbeats just went off on cable. It reminded me with I heard Robert Townsend on the radio talking about this series. I decided to stop by and check it out. I need to get caught up to Season 3, but have enjoyed the first episode and it has me wanting more.
P.S. The Five Heartbeats is one of my all time favorite movies.

This program reminds me of my life and I feel that as a single mother of six, this will help me get through some things that are troubling me in my life. Great beginning can’t wait to watch the rest of the shows to follow.
