Anyone that has ever tried a long distance relationship knows how difficult it is. But with modern technology people all over the world are staying plugged in with lovers, family and friends across the world!

In order to keep a connection with someone long-distance, there are a few must-haves.

  1. A computer with an Internet connection. In order to keep in touch, emailing, Facebook, Instant Messaging and Skype are a must. You can’t use any of these without a computer and the Internet. You’ll also need to be able to send a good email (your version of a love letter), so get a good reliable computer and good Internet service.
  2. A cell phone with a camera. Sending pictures to one another is a fun way to stay connected. You can send spontaneous pictures to your mate, friends or family members. It’s a great way to let them know that you’re thinking about them. You can also use your phone to have video chats.
  3. A good text message plan. If you want to keep the spark, you must become a master of texting! Don’t get a skimpy plan that limits the amount of text messages you can send, get an unlimited plan and let your fingers do the talking.
  4. A Webcam. Aside from sending pictures and text messages, video chat is a great way to have fun with one another. It allows you to see one another and have conversations as if both of you were in the same room!

These are four great ideas for using technology to stay connected. Do you have any other ideas for using technology to stay connected to your community? If so, let us know!
