When I step back and really examine my budget, I realize that my biggest obstacle to saving money is my love of eating out. I’ve started to pack my lunches every day and carve time out in the evening to cook healthy meals. But sometimes you want to go out to eat with your friends or family, or you’re too tired to cook. What do you do?
Try Cheapism. Cheapism is a review site for all budget products, but they have a new part of their site where they review and recommend the best, cheap local restaurants.
They put together reviews from Zagat, Urban Spoon, and Yelp, as well as local magazines and newspapers. Then they make sure there’s positive consensus before they post a recommendation on their site.
So far, they’ve listed restaurants in:
- Phoenix
- Boston
- Chicago
- Denver
- several cities in Florida
- several cities in southern California
- Baltimore
- Minneapolis
- Las Vegas
- several cities in New York
- several cities in Ohio
- Portland
- Pittsburgh
- Philadelphia
- San Francisco
- several cities in Texas
- Washington D.C.
So if you live in Brooklyn, try the $6.50 eggplant at Tanoreen. At Quatman Cafe in Cincinnati, nothing on the menu is over $7! And the turkey burgers at The Cherry Cricket in Denver are $5.95 and supposedly delicious. Bon appetite!
