Every day, 46 children are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. — about 12,500 kids each year — that’s more than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and AIDS combined.

But, thanks to better research and treatment, the number of deaths from childhood cancer are actually declining. So, to help create awareness, support families, and continue improving research and treatment, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

And everyone can make a difference. You can help by donating a little (or a lot) of your money, time and friendship. There are many ways to do this, here are just a few:

  1. Know the facts about childhood cancer – which types are most common, possible causes and more
  2. Fight childhood cancer by donating $1 to wear pajamas to a PJammin event
  3. Support childhood cancer gold ribbon awareness
  4. Help sponsor a family
  5. Give a classmate or friend a butterfly bear
  6. Find volunteer opportunities through VolunteerMatch
