Most households buy a lot of paper products, whether it’s toilet paper, paper towels, or notebook paper. Around the world, we’re using about 1 million tons of paper a day. But there are ways that you can save money and the environment by using paper wisely.

Save Money
The video below from WalletPop shows a number of tips to saving money on paper products. To save green on paper, you can:

  • Shop at supermarkets rather than big discount stores. Supermarkets usually have better deals.
  • Go to supermarket sales, which usually happen twice a month – during the first week of the month and in the middle of the month, near the 15th.
  • Use coupons and check for deals online on sites like Amazon.com or Drugstore.com.
  • Buy in bulk and buy generic brands to save money.

Save the Environment
Reducing your paper consumption is a good to live a more environmental lifetstyle. Can you use wash clothes, sponges, or towels instead of paper towels? Can you use a whiteboard for notes rather than post-it notes? When you have to buy paper, it’s a good idea to buy recycled paper and to recycle paper you use. Buying in bulk not only saves money, but it also reduces packaging. Try to use both sides of a piece of paper or keep your documents electronic whenever possible. And think of creative ways to reuse toilet paper rolls like this:

Try to use paper wisely, meaning try not to use too much. First reduce, then reuse, then recycle. Here’s another video with more tips:
