In episode one, “September,” we meet Lonnie, a skater chasing a dream, and Tye, a typical teen with friends, flirtations, and family issues. When Lonnie’s boy, Safir, hits him up about being a virgin, we begin to wonder if a seemingly distant attraction is more or less than it appears.
In this particular scene when he is riding the skateboard. The instrumental that is playing in the background where can we find it? Or can you tell me the name of the instrumental?
The instrumental was scored for the series by multi-talented, and multi-evolving Itai Shapira. You can check him out at http://www.itaishapira.com.

it confused me as to why Lani had condoms but didnt use them. In all reality most boys if they have a condom they will use them. It is when people don’t have protection is when they fail. I felt that was unnecesary and confusing
confusingggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this episode got me well acclimated with the situation at hand, i was also infatuated with the male lead. The teasing from his friend shows how people can be deterred from practiving safe sex out of embarrasment oh so shameful
it still ammuses me how many guys dont know how and what to do to protect themselves. i feel that it was right for lonnie’s friend to tell him to always stay protected.
okay episode one is already sooooooo secretive and it makes you just wanna keep up with the episodes ILOVE IT!!! pleaseeee contintue
oweeee its swaggedddd out!!
I really liked this episode. The first thing that I noticed was “Oh my gosh! That’s the guy from That’s So Raven! I love him, I should watch!” I felt that the scene between Lonnie and his friend explored a common teen peer pressure about whether or not to have sex. It made me wonder if it was better to lie about being a virgin or not, or be honest with yourself and secure in how far you have gone sexually. I felt like that subject could have been explored a bit more, but overall this was a great first episode.
I really enjoyed this episode. I love how the characters were introduced and i find it so refreshing that they show how much pressure is pressed upon teens to lose their virginity at an early age. Great job!
The characters are introduced well in this episode. It’s important that the issue of peer pressure was emphasized in this video because so many teens can relate to it.
I really enjoyed the first episode because I truly can relate to it. Many boys are pressured into losing thier virginty as soon as possible. They are both to very credible characters.
I enjoyed the show so far. The ending story was strange though.
The show was cool, I liked the ending better mostly because of the girls story and how her boyfriend tried and succeeded in getting her pregnanat, why he wanted escapes me though
Although this first episode was great and well though out, it was the testimonial during the credits that was a true eye opener and brought it home for me. I’m kind of upset that the episode is so short.
the first episode was amazing , i can totally relate to it in every way possible .. Especially the peer Pressure of him being a virgin
What a great outlet for young people to explore and express the issues and concerns of their community. One Economy hit a home-run with this one….thank you for giving a voice to the voiceless.
i think the scenario is true and alot of people can relate to it. it shows struggles that are most common in teens like preganacy and neglection from parents and relastionships
I enjoyed watching 9ine because it’s something that a lot of teen moms can relate to. Instead of watching reality tv, they can watch something that is real.
I enjoyed watching 9ine and I can relate to this because I have friends who have gotten abortions or are currently parents at a young age. It’s nice to watch something other than reality tv that you can actually tell is real.
I really enjoyed watching the short episode, I thought that it was really interesting. Somehow, it seemed like the episode or plot could really relate to young adults these days,
I like many things about this beginning–mostly the way the teen characters are represented — thoughtful, nuanced.
When they are treated with respect like this in the storytelling it makes it easy to relate to them. It’s easy to care about these characters and what will happen with them.
It looks good–the dialogue’s good–just the right touch.
Context, relationships….I look forward to the rest!
Thanks so much Bridget. Our resource pool is constantly expanding as we seek to provide relevant, accurate, and actionable information for teens, parents, and youth advocates.
Would be interested in getting your thoughts on the testimonials during the end credits. Because of the teenagers willingness to share their experiences and insights we’re considering running the testimonials in their entirety on the show home page.
Would that be of interest to you and others, you think? Always open to new ideas.
thanks again.

I can relate to so much to both sides of this story. My mother, although a great mom, she was so busy working trying to make sure we were taken care of. From the girls point of view I watched my parents fight and scream back and forth, which cause them later to get a divorce. I was much younger at this age, but what parents go through children are picking up. I was affected about all of this, so my thoughts was to find love from someone else. Females too often find comfort in another man to listen to then and make them feel secure. Of course in this story she looks like she has a good relationship with her dad, but the missing piece to the puzzle is her mother.
The part where the guy is being pressured by his friend is every teenagers story about how their virginity went south. Most teenagers do not leave it up to themselves to do it. Usually it takes someone else influencing them to do so..I wonder where this story leads……..
Really a strong start. Looks great! I especially like the interview during the end credits. Can’t wait to share with friends!
THIS IS A VERY POSITIVE PIECE OF WORK, NOT JUST BECAUSE MY CLIENT JONATHAN ‘LIL J” MCDANIEL IS STARRING IN IT, BUT BECAUSE OF IT’S COMPELLING MESSAGE THAT TEENS SHOULD BE , BUT ARE NOT AWARE OF, THE STATISTICS ARE ALARMING BUT TRUE, CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THE NEXT 7 EPISODES, GREAT JOB ONE ECONOMY, THE DIRECTOR, PRODUCERS, ACTORS, EVERYONE WHO MADE THIS SHOW POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! LIVIO
This is really worth seeing. Is there a plan to get this into schools? Thinking series with African Americans are rare. Usually everything is explained for you. As a one time teen mom I can tell you that the characters are real. I hope people share this. And for all the teen parents, hold your head up. You got a job to do.
Great work!… I’ll be sure to pass this on and let pepole know how wonderful this is:-)…
Very glad to see a show that’s real and not afraid to show the interracial family. Also, very good story
Hi Natasha. Thank you. We look forward to seeing the review. Please let us know when it’s up.

Awesome first episode. I blog for ThePushback.org and will be writing a review on this next week and sharing with everyone.
I like that the show is portraying an African American family with a father and mother, even though it appears there are some issues. The mom is throwing her husband’s unemployment in his face (yet he is the one it seems that cooked dinner and is cleaning the kitchen after dinner) and he is telling her that he carried things when she was going to school. She is saying she worked while going to school. I don’t know what year it was that she was unemployed but being unemployed NOW is totally different than before. You can hardly find full-time or part time jobs these days . . . especially with unemployment at 16% for African Americans. If he is just sitting around the house and doing nothing all day, I can understand her being upset. It seems he is taking care of home while she is working so in my book that evens things out. If she were to lose her job right now, she’d understand what he is going through. I can’t wait to hear more about their situation. I noticed the daughter didn’t go outside and talk with her mom so there is more going on. I can’t wait to see what it is. If the mom feels stressed from having to carry everything, how would she feel if her husband left her and she became a single mom like Lonnie’s mom. I think she is a single mom in the show. Not sure but will see in the next episode, I hope. I know she has to be stressed if she if a single mom with 2 kids and holding down a job. I heard Safir call Lonnie . . . “Niggy.” I hope that doesn’t mean what I think it means.
I saw that Brian J. White is a “Co-executive Producer.” Congrats Brian! I thought he was part of the cast. I love me some Brian White. I hope the next episode is at least 15-20 minutes in length.
Hey SouthernGirl,
I really appreciate, your in-depth analysis on the story lines. I look forward to your take as the series develops.
And yes, Brian J. White is a co-executive producer. Look for Brian in episode three for his recurring role throughout the series as a mentor to Lonnie.
As for the show’s running time, you and I know there is so much complexity and nuance to the issues our kids face, consequences that reverberate deep into our communities, our country.
Thanks so much, and feel free to ask any questions about the series, PIC, and/or the production company One Economy.
peace,
allen
Following up. What I meant to say about the show’s abbreviated length is that we intend to provide additional content, like the Real Teen Revelations that play over the end credits of each episode, as well as build up momentum for a second season, contingent upon viewer response.
Again thank you so much for your support.

Closing credit “Original Music” needs to be corrected. You have http://itaishaira.com/. It should be http://itaishapira.com/
Didn’t see anywhere else to send this, so hope you are reading the comments. Rest was nicely done, and can’t comment on other spelling…
Thanks Ralph, good lookin out! I am the composer for the film and I didn’t even notice this!!! I’m gonna tell the director to fix it.
Many Thanks
Itai
Wow, I can’t wait for the second episode!
Nicely done, Dan! An impacting series! Much needed, and providing a frank and realistic portrayal of this continuing social issue.
Looks to be another great series. Keep up the good work of producing quality programming and providing useful information.
Good start. Good foundation to build on. Like how the show showed how hard it is for guys to keep their virginity. Good that they showed the condoms and the need to use them. Since this is about getting pregnant from the boys standpoint, we can assume the condoms didn’t get used? Good showing with the girl having what appears to be a good relationship with her dad. Staying tuned for next week.
Congratulations, Team 9INE! Thanks for a compelling story, frank discussion of the impacts of teen pregnancy, and links to resources for young people and their families. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Welcome to the premiere episode of 9INE. This is the first of a nine-part series, with new episodes hitting every week. Enjoy, and let us know what you think here in the comments.
