thats not cool who ever did that to my post well heres what i was gonna say i think lonnie had alot of guts to go up to tylers dad because i dont think i would be able to that.
i think ty’s mom was way out of line! she shouldn’t have talked to lonnie the way she did, at least he is owining up to what he did and not walking away but he might walk away eventually if everyone keeps putting the blame on him!.
I think that Tyler’s parents were being a little unfair to Lonie, but then agian he did have sex with their little girl and now she is six months pregnant. So i can’t really blame them for being so hostile towards Lonie, I mean who would’nt be he knocked up their teenage daughter.
I think loonie did the right thing telling tye dad that hes going to try his best and make it right. I was surprised by what tye dad said, but he does have a point. tyes mom was out of line, she has a right to be mad but not to be a jerk. I think “getting caught in the heat of the moment” is just a lame excuse. the condoms would have been easyier than taking care of a baby. I think condoms have a more important role in preventing pregnancy than protection against infection, people ushally dont know that you can still get an infection by oral and anal sex. What the group leader said about wanting to have a baby made sense, I think girls will sometimes get pregnet to possibly keep the babys dad closer to her. or vice versa. I think that last scene just shows a little how difficult it can be for a father.
By going to Tye’s dad to speak with him, I thought that Lonnie was taking a positive step in the right direction. It was noble for Lonnie to tell the dad that he was going to do everything in his power to help out with the baby. I think Tye’s dad was a little out of line when he snapped at Lonnie although if I were in his position, I would understand. Lonnie did after all get his daughter pregnant and that is something Tye’s dad would think about every time he saw Lonnie. But, when he spoke about ‘doing the right thing’ and whether taking off Tye’s clothing was the right thing, he went overboard. Obviously his daughter had the choice to have sex with Lonnie so it wasn’t all on him.
In this episode of 9ine, there was a lot of drama.Ty’s mother had no right to talk to lonnie that way. What in the world is wrong with her. I mean she’s not the only one going through it and she’s acting as if she’s suffering. If she really wants to make things better, she’s needs to grow up and act her age. Even her own daughter dosen’t want anything to do with her and she’s the one who’s most affected by this pregnancy. I love ty for her confidence, but her mom needs a brain in that head of her’s.
This educational video series over world wide web, is a very nice I like! but i think this young boy is being a blamed for a everything for why I ask!?!? for surely this was both the woman and mans fault, they both decided to make-ah-die-baby no?
I was really surprised to see a father holding the baby, instead of a mother holding the baby. I also kind of felt sorry for him because I could imagine all the challenges he’s going through. Then again I think does he diserve this or not, but I’m coming up with a blank.
What does everyone else think? Does the father deserve this? Or not.
answer to Q#1 what I thought lonnie meant by that was he would need tye’s father’s help to make some of the decisions that he needs to make and since lonnie didnt have a father having tye’s father to help him through some of his decisions would really help him.
I believe that Tyler’s parents are being major jerks to Lonnie. they shouldnt treat him like he completly ruined their daughters life. He’s a nice kid at heart
I think it took alot of guts to go and confront tyes father about the whole pregnancy thing and it was ridiculous wen her mom pretty much put everything on lonnie.
i really do not like how everyone is hating on lonnie and blaming him for everything, when the truth is its both ty and lonnies fault! but i do think that ty needs to tell lonnie that they are having a girl.
I think lonnie did the right thing about talking to the parents and telling them that he is going to stay with her And the way the parents talked to him was bad and the mom was just mean.
i think it took alot for lonnie to go to talk to tye’s dad. i think that tye’s mom and overreacting and being hard on herself and everyone around her because of this pregnacy.
i think its both the boy, and the girl’s resposnibilty for birthcontrol. and so far the conversation between lani and tye’s mom/ dad was the most beleivable part of this series.
I thought that it was the right thing to do when Lonnie went to talk to Tye’s dad to talk to him about the whole pregnancy. I also thought that both of Tye’s parents were out of line when they treated Lonnie like it was all his fault.
Tye’s mom freaking out on Lonnie is completely inappropriate. She acts like everything is Lonnie’s fault when it isn’t. Maybe if Tye’s mom had paid more attention to her daughter and cared to develop a healthy relationship with her she wouldn’t have gone out and found love from a boy which led to her pregnancy. And by her saying that Lonnie took everything she had planned for her daughter is crazy because it didn’t really seem like she cared for her daughter or her husband much before.
it seems like the support group is very helpful too Lonnie..the two guys leading the group know what they are talking bout and those guys are luck to look up to them and I think dat Lonnie honestly loves tye
I think it was brave of Lonnie and a good decision to talk to Tye’s dad, what the mom said to Lonnie was a little mean. I think Tye needs to give Lonnie some credit and tell him its a girl and like her friend said if he leaves because of it then she should not be with him anyway and he dont deserve her or the baby girl.
It was harsh what Ty’s mom said to Lonnie. They both had dreams and they still can do those dreams it will be harder and I dont like how Ty’s parents are blaming this whole thing on him.
i felt bad for lonnie when tye’s mom said that to him. I thought it was pretty harsh, and i think its unfair to him because he probably had dreams tooo. I dont think it was just lonnies fault, they both had a part in it.
My favorite episode was february, because Lonnie went up to Tyler’s father and stood up to him.Discussing this in class has helped me understand what teen pregnancy is really about. I liked everything about this series. I learned that if you get someone pregnant you have to stay with them to help with the baby.
All I wanted when I was a teenager was a baby, but I didn’t have a boyfriend like Lonnie, or a dad like Tye’s either. Life is not that bad if you think about it and really look inside. Everyone has problems, you have to rise above it, that’s what people do when they have kids, planned or unplanned. And really it’s about what you bring to it. If you love your child and learn how to care for your child and each other, you’ll be alright. That’s the secret. Love is all it takes and it’s free! I do like some of the messages in this episode, but the blame game isn’t really fair. Why are all these folks so angry? Seems like none of them get along, so do they deserve a child in their lives? I know the point is to make you sympathize with the teenagers, and believe me I do, especially Tye, but the “adults” are really bordering on mean.
Thank you Cloud9 for your comments. You’re so right that Love is the most important ingredient in practically any familial situation. However, when times are already challenging for people – in Tye’s family, economic hardship – and when you as a parent have invested so much into your child who you believe held so much promise…when that dream, that hope, that promise seems forsaken or denied, it’s not hard to imagine a reaction like theirs. The pain. The anger. Frustration.
Very few of us bring children into the world wanting to reduce or hinder their chances of having a more fulfilling life then our own.
And I know there are some teen parents who are amazing, who’ve either succeeded on their own or with the kind of family and partner support we all wish for.
However…when we look at the math, and how teen moms can expect on average only $800 a year for child support, when we look at the lives altered, not just for the teens, but for our communities at large, when we consider that children born to teen parents will more often than not face societal ills they are ill-equip for… that they will face these challenges much more than a child born to someone in their early 20s or 30s. when we consider these challenges that are still for the most part preventable…we realize it’s gonna take more than Love.
It’s gonna take guidance, and focus, and accurate information, education, and a society that realizes the more we give our children to say yes to in Life, the less we have to tell them “just say no.”
How honorable of him to mend a relationship that is already strained. Why do they hate him so sheesh it takes two to make a baby. Like guys are the culprit why aren’t girls treated the same. Its like it “happens” to girl but the boy”did” it.
there’s alot of stress starting to just pile up….and the baby is almost due…..familes should pull together at this time for the baby not fall apart..stay stronggg
I love how Lonnie went and talked to Tye’s dad. This was one of my favorite episodes. Lonnie is trying the best he can despite not having a job or anyway to support a child, but at least he is being mature, and plans on sticking around to support his child. I really loved the guy’s testimony at the end as he tried to keep his daughters attention. I can’t say I know too many guys who would actually stay around and be involved in their child’s life like him and I really liked that. It shows their’s hope for teen dads that they will do the right thing and take responsibility for their actions. I am very proud of him. =D
This is my favorite episode because Lonnie really steps up to the plate. I thought that Lonnie would bail but the fact that he stuck around and fought for respect from Ty’s parents was great. This really sets an example for teenage fathers.
I am proud of Lonnie for trying to gain the respect of Tye’s parents. Thats how it should be. The baby is not only going to affect Tys’s family but his too.
I appreciate Tye’s dad for respecting Lonnie’s bravery for coming up to the house, and making an attempt to be there for the family and the baby. Plus, it took Lonnie AND Tye to make that baby; that baby would definitely put a strain on Lonnie’s family. I also appreciate the “baby daddy” discussion about protection-who’s responsibility is it- and trying to get a girl pregnant to tie her down.
This was a real, real life eps, cause wht this Mother wants, or see so much in her daughters life and dnt even communciate with her. Mom is calling the “Kettle Black” see at least he is trying to show he is willing to Step-up and coming to the soon tobe grandparents, regardless of wht they may think or feel. My point, there are afew Good young teenage Men out there in the World, oh by the way dnt forget, bad grndparent can cause a lot of issues as well This is whts up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but see the whole pic. Gotta go
Situations like these happen in the lives of many teen parents every day. It touched my heart to see the story. It happened to me, 17 years old, about to graduate high school and pregnant. I was at a crossroads in my life and I made the decision… I had my son. It was hard, not able to be a teenager, but a parent. My parent’s raised me to never settle and I didn’t. I went to college, worked hard and raised my son, he is now 17.
I wanted to leave this comment to let teen parents know that whatever your situation is, YOU control how your life unfolds. WORK HARD now and you WILL reap the benefits later.
To the Writers/Producers/ Directors of the 9INE series I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds, I’m on the edge of my seat every episode (I wish they were longer). Hopefully you know that the first 9INE months are only the beginning and hope you will produce a 9INE series that will continue after the baby is born.
great episode! well written and well acted. the information in this series is so important for teens; even adults! we’re getting close to 9 and there’s so much more drama AFTER the baby arrives so i hope to see more episodes showing the impact actually raising a child has on these characters.
Once again great episode!
Great points being brought up here. It’s not just up to the guys to protect themselves! It was honorable of him to try to talk to his father. I can see both sides Dad- to little too late Lonnie- the baby’s coming, I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to do my part. I agree with Dad…actions speak louder than words! If he walks, they’re going to have to take on his responsibilities! It’s hard enough to raise kids that are planned!!! Bravo!!
In reply to Mr. Fellini ‘s statement about Tye’s mother feeling betrayed and getting angrier. If she get angrier, then I believe she would selfish.
If Tye’s chooses to mentor Lonnie, that is going to help Tye and the unborn child. Lonnie is young and in lack of a male example. Tye’s dad is a good man. I see his mentoring Lonnie as very great thing.
I like that Lonnie did acknowledge to Tye’s dad that he does need some guidance. I think the Dad will reach out to Lonnie in time but he has to see what he is really made of first.
This series is very thought provoking but what I don’t like is the tone that Lonnie is the only person in the wrong. I have yet to see Tye’s family talk to her about her responsibility in the matter. I also think that Tye’s father, knowing that Lonnie is being brought up with out a male figure, be a role model for him, especially if it is in the best interest of his daughter and granddaughter. I’m not saying take him on fishing trips and long walks on the beach but teach him male responsibility. Believe it or not he is apart of that family now and allowing a child to grow up with out both parents presents because of your own resentment towards them does not benefit the child in any way. Believe that!
I was thinking the same exact thing. I know Tye’s father is angry right now, but it would be good for Lonnie as well as him to take under his wing a little bit. I am glad that Lonnie has the support group because at least he has some kind of a male in his life that will say some things he needs to hear.
This is a great conversation. When I read the script, before we shot, I thought the same thing. If he’d just take Lonnie under his wing, it would be best for EVERYONE involved. But, what would Tye’s mom think about that? Wouldn’t that just make her more angry? Wouldn’t she feel somehow betrayed?
Three more episodes to go. I guess we’ll find out!
-dan
Thanks for you thoughts on this Missy. As Dan says stay tuned to coming episodes. People tend to walk through many doors to arrive at a place that’ll bring them peace, resolve, acceptance, and grace.
Ideally there are more men like Brian White’s character, Michael and Ken Moreno’s character, Frank…men that’ll continue to each one teach one. Tomorrow’s children belong to all of us.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It helps keep the conversation going beyond the credits.
you make a really good point about tye’s family, but all too often the girls are mostly held responsible and totally abandoned by young fathers so it’s good to see that lonnie is being challenged by the adults. it takes a village to keep our children and our teens safe so ideally tye’s father will become a role model for lonnie and as you said, take tye under his wing. why not?
Who is to blame in this situation? Ty? Lonnie? The parents? Influencial friends? WHO? Everyone listed has a some sort of connection on why teenagers get themselves in this situaion. It is easier for the guy to get protection than a female because the female has to go to the local clinic for counseling before birth control is issued. Once a guy shows interest and tells a girl that he loves her, she is hooked. Also having a baby may fill a void that he or she is missing in their life. No one can predict what could happen when the moment is heated and both become arouse to have sex, but it could have been prevented by simply using protection or not doing it at all. Parents need to wise up and be aware of their childrens actions. It is easy to get too cusumed in work, or other activities. Parents can get so busy never expecting anything like this to happen. And we all know we have friends that talks us into doing things we should’nt. Bottom line, once everyone is on the same page, all of this could have been avoided. Now that the damage is done…its time to wise up and make plans for this child and stop playing the blame game.
Good Job to everyone involved in creating this clip!!
I absolutely love Brian’s character’s final lines about not disrupting someone else’s life for a selfish agenda, – if only in our youth we all could actually wrap our brains around that idea. It’s hard for adults to grasps the idea and they (we) supposedly have more wisdom. This series is ground-breaking and I have passed it on to all of my friends with tweens/teens. You do a great job of painting the full picture of all aspects of how poor choices can change the course of life for two families. **bravo**
Wow! This epp was good. What I loved most is when Brian White’s character told the guys that they should not disrupt a girl’s life for their own selfish reasons. That spoke volumns to me. If teens, both girls and boys (we adults for that matter) would think like that, things would not only be better in regards to teen pregnancy but in aspect of life. Standing O for that line.
It’s not about what you say. It’s about what you do. Great show.
Also why do the parents feel so much hatred toward the boy?? It takes two. All girls should protect themselves first. We need to teach girls to value themselves enough to protect their goals and dreams over a boy.
It does take two and I know that, but I understand how they feel. I would feel the same way as they do.
Teens do not need to be sexually active and I think we all agree on that, but if they are both parties need to have their condoms. The guy is not the only one responsible for protection. We do need to stress to girls they are worth so much more than they feel or think. This way if a guy says do it without protection she will say no.

I think it took alot of guts to go and confront tyes father about the whole pregnancy thing and it was ridiculous wen her mom pretty much put everything on lonnie.

i understand where the parents were coming from because no parent wants their teen son/daughter having a child while there also a child.
I love how Lonnie went and talked to Tye’s dad. This was one of my favorite episodes. Lonnie is trying the best he can despite not having a job or anyway to support a child, but at least he is being mature, and plans on sticking around to support his child. Wooow, her dad is mad. This guy is making me mad with his male dominant butt
don’t both the mothers make you mad as well?
I love how Lonnie was mature enough to approach Tye’s father and have a man to man talk with him about to pregnancy.
Hi. Why is February’s video missing?
This was a real, real life eps, cause wht this Mother wants, or see so much in her daughters life and dnt even communciate with her. Situations like these happen in the lives of many teen parents every day. It touched my heart to see the story. It happened to me, 17 years old, about to graduate high school and pregnant.
Keep up the great work!
great episode! well written and well acted. the information in this series is so important for teens; even adults! we’re getting close to 9 and there’s so much more drama AFTER the baby arrives so i hope to see more episodes showing the impact actually raising a child has on these characters.
Bravo!!
I mean it was honorable of Lonnie to talk the Dad..lol..I think faster than I type!..LOL
i love this show, very thought provoking

It helps keep the conversation going beyond the credits.

hi missy,
you make a really good point about tye’s family, but all too often the girls are mostly held responsible and totally abandoned by young fathers so it’s good to see that lonnie is being challenged by the adults. it takes a village to keep our children and our teens safe so ideally tye’s father will become a role model for lonnie and as you said, take tye under his wing. why not?
This is a really excellent show. I hope it gets a second season.
